Uncertainty prevails for Tet aspirants
Chennai: The delay in releasing the notification for the Teacher Eligibility Test (Tet) has further fuelled the uncertainty among the teacher aspirants as to whether the exam will be conducted before April this year.
As per the earlier schedule, the Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) planned to start the sale of TET applications from Monday. The board has printed 12 lakh applications for the exam and sent it to the districts last week. But, the TRB has not issued any notification on Monday.
Sources said that the previous chairman Vibhu Nayar did not receive the full support for conducting the exam from the school education department. Citing the class 10 and 12 board exams and evaluation of answer scripts, the department allegedly offered the primary school teachers to conduct the exam.
Since the transfer, new chairman Kakarla Usha has held several rounds of meetings with the officials of the school education department.
But the sources said the challenges in conducting such a big exam are yet to be resolved. Officials from the school education department said the exam will be conducted on April 29 and 30 as announced by the government. Approximately, the board will need 50,000 teachers to conduct the Tet.
“The evaluation of class 12 and class 10 answer scripts would be over by April 15. So, the graduate, post-graduate teachers and school education officials are available for Tet. The notification will be issued very soon,” they said.
The teacher aspirants are waiting for nearly three years for Tet having got the weightage marks issue resolved by the apex court. The Madras high court has ordered to conduct the eligibility test before April this year. The teacher aspirants also wanted the new chairman to continue the transparency measures initiated by the TRB recently.
“New chairman has to maintain the same level of transparency. The board has been showing the answer sheets to the candidates and putting competitive exam marks and interview marks on the internet to ensure openness in the selection process,” they said.
For the first time, the TRB published the interview marks of the candidate on a website. “The important measures to ensure the transparency should not be allowed to be tampered with,” they urged.
