Kozhikode: VACB launches NSS-Vigil help desks in colleges

Training workshops were held at Government College, Madappally, and Zamorin's Guruvayoorappan College.

KOZHIKODE: The NSS-Vigil help desks launched in Kozhikode on Monday will get replicated across the state if proved successful. Five help desks are being set up in the district on a pilot basis, said vigilance DySP Jossy Cherian. The help desks are coming up in five colleges initially with the support of the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) so that the public can directly inform them about corruption or seek help. Training workshops were held at Government College, Madappally, and Zamorin’s Guruvayoorappan College.

Two volunteers will attend to the calls every day. SN College, Chelannur, and Government Arts and Science College, Meenchanda, are other two colleges selected for the launch. The complaints from city police station limits would go to Zamorin’s Guruvayoorappan College, and those from the corporation would go to Holy Cross Institute of Management and Technology. The village offices from the city limits would fall under the purview of Government Arts and Science College, Meenchanda, and SN College, Chelannur would cater to the needs of people from Thamarassery taluk.

The programme was inaugurated by corporation secretary Mrinmayi Joshi by handing over the mobile phone to the students at the Holy Cross. Ms Joshi said the civic body's progress and works were suffering due to corruption and hoped the new system would bring a change. Principal Sr Shyni George, VACB CI Ganesh Kumar, NSS programme coordinators A.P. Moideenkutty (University) and Ranjith Raveendran also attended.
