Vijayawada: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation mayor Rayana Bhagyalakshmi and commissioner Swapnil Dinkar Pundkar on Sunday wished the people of Vijayawada city a happy and prosperous Sankranti.
The mayor said, “The Sankranti festival, which is the source of our cultural traditions and is celebrated with devotional fervour of Haridasulu, Basavanna games, and colourful Rangolis with Gobbemmas, will be awe-inspiring. She explained that the sun entering Makara Rasi is known as Makara Sankarmanam and is called Sankranti."
According to VMC commissioner Swapnil Dinkar, the Sankranti is celebrated for three days, of which the first day is Bhogi, which is celebrated on Sunday. The second day is Makar Sankranti, and the third day is Kanuma. He urged the public to cooperate with the VMC by avoiding littering the streets and to celebrate Sankranti in a prosperous manner.
