Hyderabad: Mercury levels in the city witnessed a two-degree Celsius spike on Sunday, up from 31°C a day before to 33°C, with the trend set to persist for the next two days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
IMD officials said that although the increase was on the lower end, the change in wind patterns made people feel that the temperature increased significantly.
The minimum temperature, of 18°C recorded on Saturday, remained in the same range, with a minimum temperature of 18.7°C recorded on Sunday.
“For the next two days, the temperature is likely to increase. The temperature during day might increase up to 35°C, and during night to 20°C,” said Dr A. Dharmaraju, scientist, IMD-Hyderabad.
Officials said that the weather was relatively colder till January 13 due to north-westerly, northerly and north-easterly winds. These winds, coming from colder parts of north Indian mountains and plains, have weakened over the past two days.
“The speed and aerial coverage of these cold winds that drop the temperature has reduced. Simultaneously, on Sunday, the south-easterly and easterly winds coming the sea which are warmer have intensified in the state, increasing the temperature,” said another IMD official.
