Police File Charges Against MP Anant Kumar Over Controversial Remarks

Mangaluru: The Kumta police have initiated a suo motu case against Member of Parliament and former Minister Anant Kumar Hegde regarding his recent controversial statement.

The police have filed charges under IPC sections 505 (clause 2), related to statements creating or promoting enmity, hatred, or ill-will between classes, and 153A, pertaining to promoting enmity between different groups based on religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and engaging in acts prejudicial to the maintenance of harmony.

Anant Kumar Hegde, known for sparking controversies with his statements, had maintained silence for the past 3-4 years. However, he has now come under the spotlight following the circulation of controversial clips on social media. The contentious remarks were made in Kumta, Uttara Kannada district few days ago. The video clip features Hegde addressing a group on various issues.

"The mosque at CP Bazar in Sirsi was Vijaya Vittala Temple. The mosque at Srirangapatna was Maruthi Temple. Bhatkal golden mosque is also in the list. Some people may think this as a threat. There are many such signs of humiliation in the country. Until they are removed, the Hindu society will not sit quiet. 'Rana Bhairava' is awakened. There is no question of sitting quiet. It all began with Ram Janamabhoomi," he stated.

Hegde also referenced the alleged curse on Indira Gandhi by Karpatri Maharaj.

"Following the death of seers and cattle at a firing during a massive campaign against cow slaughter, Karpatri Maharaj had cursed Indira Gandhi that her clan would be destroyed on Gopastami day. Sanjay died in a plane crash on Gopastami, similarly Indira Gandhi was shot dead, and Rajiv Gandhi killed in a bomb blast on Gopastami day," Hegde claimed. The video further captures Hegde referring to Siddaramaiah as the primary opponent, distinguishing him from the Congress.

"Congress is an opponent for political reasons. But our main opponent is Siddaramaiah and not Congress. The people who have Ahindu (Anti Hindu) stand are our opponents," he asserted, labeling Siddaramaiah as 'Murkharamaiah' and alleging that individuals like him were attempting to divide Hindu society in the name of caste and region. "Despite all this, the society is united," he added.

He also criticized Siddaramaiah for his remarks on Ayodhya and asserted that Siddaramaiah's shift in position was influenced by the influence of the Hindu society. "Initially, Siddaramaiah stated he did not receive an invitation. Subsequently, he declared he would not attend the program. Now, he mentions he will go but not on Jan 22. This alteration in stance in the last 8 days is because of the growing strength of the Hindu society," he asserted.
