Hyderabad: BRS leaders gave a categorical assurance to farmers on Saturday that the draft master plan of the Kamareddy municipality proposing an industrial zone and a green zone would be changed. Fertile land of farmers will not be covered under the zones, they said.
Kamareddy municipal vice-chairperson Gaddam Indu Priya, BRS district president Mujeebuddin and senior party leaders spoke with farmers from Patha Rajampet, Lingapur, Adloor and Tekrial villages.
“We will pass a resolution in favour of farmers in the Kamareddy municipal council meeting soon, if not we will resign,” the ruling party councillors said. In support of farmers, they handed over a letter to the village development committee of Patha Rajampet.
The proposed roads of 100 and 80 feet from Lingapur to Kamareddy water tank through Devunipally and Lingapur villages will be finalised after consulting farmers, they said. They made it clear that industrial and green zones will not be set up in fertile agricultural lands at Ilchipur, Adloor and Tekrial villages.
Councillors Kasarla Srinivas, Suguna, Krishnaji Rao, Kasarla Swamy, Shankar Rao, Gaddameedi Rani Mahesh and BRS leaders Gaddam Chandrasekhar Reddy were present.
On the other hand, in a move reminiscient of the statehood movement days, farmers drew Sankranti muggulu in front of their houses in Kamareddy and Jagtial districts in protest against the proposed master plans.
“BRS MLAs celebrate Sankranti festival happily by setting up industrial zones in our fertile agricultural lands,” a farmer said. ‘Stop recreation zone, stop master plan’ was the rangoli slogan at Mothe and Narsingapur villages in Jagtial district.
Meanwhile, some farmers approached the Human Rights Commission seeking cancellation of the master plan.
“Police resorted to an indiscriminate lathi-charge during our protest, but no action was initiated against the errant police officer,” said a farmer. They said that Kamareddy collector Jitesh V. Patil had ignored their pleas.
