Chennai: CM Hikes Milk Procurement Price by Rs 3 a Litre
Chennai: Acceding to the long time demand of milk producers for an increase in the procurement price of milk, Chief Minister M K Stalin announced a hike of Rs 3 per litre from Monday, December 18, after which Rs 38 would paid for a litre of cow milk and Rs 47 for a buffalo milk by Aavin, the State government’s milk cooperative.
Over 3.87 lakh milk producers, who have been supplying a daily average of 32.98 lakh litres of milk to Aavin, would benefit from the rise in procurement rate as the producers had been complaining about an increase in raw materials for quite some time.
Aavin had been supplying over 30 lakh litres of milk every day to customers and district milk producers cooperative societies had been taking care of the milk producers’ requirements like feed and medical facilities for the cattle, an official press release said on Wednesday.
The present procurement rates of Rs 35 for cow milk and Rs 44 for buffalo milk were fixed on November 5, 2022, the release said.
Reacting to the government announcement on the rise in procurement price of milk, PMK president Anbumani Ramadoss said that it was not enough and wanted the rates to be fixed at Rs 51 for buffalo milk and Rs 42 for cow milk.
