Kozhikode beach beautification in progress

Work expected to finish within 45 days; Vendors to be shifted.

KOZHIKODE: The beautification work of south beach started in June last year is progressing. The harbour engineering department has undertaken the Rs 3.85 crore adornment work, which is expected to finish by early March. The adornment work started from the south side of the wharf in a length of 800 metres and width of 10 metres. "The focal point is the 330-meter walkway annexed to the sea," district collector UV Jose said.

Four rounded viewpoints, shelters to protect visitors from sun and rain, varieties of benches and notches towards sea are part of the project. Walls are coming up to protect the beach. Interlocking the walkway and tiling of benches are pending.
It got delayed due to disputes over encroachments that he had dismantled. An owner then moved the court stalling the works near his building. The rest are in progress.

Apart from this, Rs 4 crore is allotted for the renovation of Kozhikode beach with an open stage, repairing the broken down notches, installation of lights and toilets. They expect to start the work within 45 days. Handcart traders will be shifted to a new place. Traffic jam is usual on Beach Road and surroundings due to lack parking space, which authorities have decided to end.
