Kerala: Girl bullied over dance petitions cops
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Jasla Madasseri who was subjected to online and offline harassment for participating in a flash mob in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, has moved the Kerala State Women’s Commission and the police seeking protection for her life and action against the accused. Ms Jasla named seven persons in her complaint to the police accusing them of threatening her on social media and through telephone calls. She also submitted screen shots of the posts against her to assistant commissioner of police (Cantonment) D.S. Suneesh Babu.
Sources said that the police is likely to register a case against the accused who directly abused her as well as those who made adverse comments on her. In her petition to Women’s commission, Ms Jasla sought steps to ensure protection to her so that she can freely express her thoughts. She also sought legal action against those who abused and threatened her. Women’s Commission member Shahida Kamal later said the commission has already initiated steps based on her petition.
Ms Jasla, who hailed from Manjeri, was part of a flash mob by Facebook group Kerala Freethinkers Forum Tagore Theatre, the main venue of IFFK here. The flash mob was staged as a mark of protest against the cyber attack on three Muslim girls who performed a flash mob in Malappuram as part of an AIDS awareness programme. Subsequently, cyber bullies abused and threatened her and her parents on social media and through telephone calls.
