Gadhika to kickstart on December 19
Palakkad: A Folk Art Fair named ‘Gadhika’, organized jointly by the Department of SC/ST Welfare with other organizations, will be held from December 19 to 28 at Vadakkanchery. Several products of tribal people will be put on sale at the fair. Tribal art forms will be performed at the event, Minister for SC/ST Welfare A K Balan said here on Monday. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event at 5.30 pm on December 19. Mr Balan will preside over the function.
Alathur MP P K Biju and President of Sangeetha Nataka Akademi actress KPAC Lalitha will also be present. Several ministers and film artists will take part in the 10-day event. The valedictory function on December 29 will be inaugurated by Chairman of the Administrative Reforms Commission V S Achuthanadan. The Minister said at the press meet held here that the BJP-CPM clashes at Puthussery-Kanjikode regions in the district needed to be effectively tackled by the police.
“BJP members had earlier walked out of the peace talks but they need to have a rethink on their stand,” he added. Balan who is also the Cultural Minster said that all people should not be forced to stand up in cinema theatres during film festivals while the national anthem was played at the beginning of the show. “In such matters, we need to go by sentiments,” he noted.
