Cyclone Vardah leaves Puducherry largely untouched
Puducherry: Cyclone ‘Vardah’ crossed the coast without causing much trouble or dumping rain in Puducherry. Though authorities geared up for a Meteorological Department forecast for heavy rains under the influence of Vardah cyclone, only intermittent rains lashed through Monday in the region.
The Port Department had hoisted the flag denoting a ‘signal 8’ cyclone warning and anticipating heavy rainfall the Puducherry government has declared a holiday for all educational institutions.
Puducherry government took precautionary steps to meet any emergency situation and Revenue Minister M.O.H.F. Shajahan inspected the arrangements made by the administration on Sunday. Revenue and Disaster Management Department officials met to ensure that all necessary arrangements were in place. Farmers were disappointed as they expected good rainfall under the influence of the cyclone.
