Hyderabad: The Kacheguda police arrested a couple within a day after they kidnapped a one-and-a-half-year-old baby girl with the intention of selling her. The baby was handed over to her mother.
A Kacheguda police official identified the accused as K. Avinash, 34, and his wife Sandhya, 34, residents of Chaderghat.
A police official said that at about 1 pm on Monday, M. Krishnaveni, 26, a resident of Rajendranagar, brough her baby daughter Maheshwari to Chaderghat for begging. She went to sleep at night on the pavement near the Yellamma temple.
When Krishnaveni woke at around 3 am, her daughter was missing. She rushed to the police and lodged a complaint.
A police team immediately verified footage of the CCTV cameras in the vicinity and spotted the couple kidnapping the baby.
Following up on evidence, the couple was nabbed by Tuesday noon.
