Kochi Corporation denies permission to work on holiday

The corporation asked union leaders to submit a written undertaking before Friday but they have failed to furnish such an undertaking.

KOCHI: The attempt by the pro-left staff associations in the Kochi Corporation to work on a Saturday to complete the pending works on a holiday was foiled by the corporation. The corporation declined to grant permission for the request made by district unit of the Kerala Municipal Corporation Staff Union to work on Saturday, a closed holiday on account of Second Saturday. The request letter was given by the union a week ago but the mayor and corporation secretary declined permission on the ground that several files from office of the corporation are already missing and the union should bear the responsibility for any missing file on the day.

The corporation asked union leaders to submit a written undertaking before Friday but they have failed to furnish such an undertaking. Around 40 staff members including women owing allegiance to the union assembled before the corporation office on Saturday morning and held a sit-in in protest against the denial of permission by the authorities for working on a holiday.
