Demonetisation: Kerala traders to shut shop from Tuesday
Kozhikode: The traders’ organisation Kerala Vyapari Vyavasayi Ekopana Samithy (KVVES) would down shutters of all shops and other business establishments in the state from Tuesday in protest against the irregularities in the implementation of demonetisation, KVVES president T. Nazrudheen said in a press release. The withdrawal of notes has clearly hit the trade, forcing the traders’ community to take the extreme step, Mr Nazrudheen said.
Meanwhile, Kerala Hotel and Restaurant Association has threatened to close down eateries to tide over the acute shortage of small denomination currencies.
“We are finding it difficult to give change to customers,” said KHRA chief Moideenkuty Haji. The Union Government and the Reserve Bank should take immediate steps to supply small denomination currency, said Moideenkuty Haji, president and G Jayapal, secretary of KHRA said on Saturday. “Otherwise we will e forced to close down the outfits”, they said. There are several incidents of disputes with consumers as we find it difficult to give the balance amount after they pay in Rs 2,000 denomination, they added.
