Vengara polling touches 72.12 per cent
MALAPPURAM: The voter turnout in Vengara assembly byelection has reached 72.12 per cent according to the final figures released by the district election authorities on Thursday. As per the latest figures, 1, 22,610 voters in the constituency have exercised their franchise in the poll. This includes 66,030 women and 56,550 male voters. The constituency registered an increase of 1.35 per cent in voter turnout as compared to the previous assembly election in 2016.
At the same time, the turnout in Vengara assembly segment has increased 4.36 per cent as compared to the Malappuram Lok Sabha bypoll held in April this year which registered 67.76 per cent turnout, the lowest in the history of the constituency. The counting will be held on Sunday at PSMO College in Tirurangadi. The electronic voting machines used in the election were kept at strong room set up the college.
The room will open on 7.45 am on the day of counting with the presence of election observer Amit Choudhari, district collector Amit Meena and returning officer Sajeev Damodar. 14 tables have been arranged for the counting and each will be managed by a supervisor, a micro observer and a counting assistant. 62 officials have been assigned for the counting. Special training will be given to these officers on Friday.
