Health minister K K Shylaja spares time to help lady
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: It is not unusual for ministers and their escort vehicles to bulldoze their way through traffic. However, in a rare instance, a minister’s escort vehicle was used to take an accident victim to hospital. Health minister K.K. Shylaja, who was heading to Kilimanoor, stopped at PMG junction, to assist a woman hit by an auto. According to her personal staff, who was with the Minister, K. Devikarani was sitting on the road, unable to move, and on the verge of tears.
The traffic policemen present were reportedly hesitant to lift her as she was a woman. Seeing her plight, the minister, who had to reach Mulakkalathukavu PHC to inaugurate a facility there helped Devikarani. Devikarani’s daughter Rajeshwari D. said that the minister had rang up General Hospital authorities to ensure that she was attended to. At General Hospital, she was admitted to casualty. By evening the patient was taken to Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, fearing a fracture of shoulder.
