Four held for attacking ex-minister kin's house
Puducherry: Four persons involved in a bomb hurling case at the house of former minister's niece house were arrested on Wednesday here.
On October 8, a country- made bomb was hurled at the house of Prema Lakshmi, the daughter of former minister P. Rajavelu’s brother late P. Uthiravelu. Some properties of the house were also destroyed.
The arrested people were identified as Kumar alias Sanikumar of Vanarapet and his associates, S. Christopher, (42), from Krishna Nagar, K. Sridhar alias Srikanth (39) from Ariyankuppam and P. Sundar (30), from Lawspet. Sanikumar was an accused in a murder case at Vanarapet in 1992 and sentenced to life imprisonment and was released only four months ago.
According to superintendent of police (law and order) Rajiv Ranjan, the group actually meant to hurl the bomb at the residence of AIADMK councillor Sathyaraj to extort money but mistakenly hurled the bomb at the house of Prema Lakshmi, who is the neighbor of Sathyaraj. Police registered a case and has started investigation.
At the same time, Mr Rajavelu along with his family met Lt Governor Kiran Bedi and submitted a memorandum alleging that his political rivals might have indulged in this act and urged her intervention to book the real culprit.
Inquiries revealed that Premalakshmi did not have any enemies and chances are that the attack was done by mistake. Inquiries revealed that it was Sanikumar, who was in need of money, did the crime.
According to the police, the accused were involved in two cases of bomb explosion one in Puducherry and other in Villupuram district.
