Train derails on KK line

Visakhapatnam: Train No. 08551 Visakhapatnam-Kirandul passenger special train derailed between Jeypore and Chatriput stations on Monday.

After passing Jeypore station, one Sleeper Class and three general coaches got derailed. There were no casualties or injuries as the trolleys of the train got derailed on to sleepers, an official release stated.

Railway spokesperson told Deccan Chronicle that the derailment took place at the 230/28 kilometre number between the two stations.

Accident relief trains were ordered to proceed to site, officers were also rushed to site for immediate restoration operations. The divisional railway manager Anup Satpathy monitored the relief operations. Alternative transport arrangements made for stranded passengers.

On the other hand, the Railway division commissioned the Kumhar Marenga railway siding on Monday to enhance the freight traffic and revenue. First rake from NMDC was received at the site on the occasion. The siding will facilitate stockpiling of iron ore received from the NMDC and later will be transported to various destinations by rail or road. It is expected to receive one take per day and about one million tons per year. This will generate additional revenue of more than Rs 86 crore per annum. Railway has given 49,000 square metres of land on lease for five years to the NMDC.

Prior to this, the DRM held discussions with the NMDC officials at Nagarnar on various developmental activities.
