Hyderabad: Channels air old video on attack

Hours after the video went viral, regional channels picked it & reported that the incident took place a few days ago.

Hyderabad: When the idol immersion procession was taking place peacefully in the city, a video of three persons attacking a traffic policeman went viral. Alerted at the video going viral, the police verified the incident and said that it took place eight months ago and was wrongly telecast by regional news channels always eager to stoke fires. In the video, three persons attack a traffic police constable in the Nampally area, when stopped by the cop for violating MV Act in riding triple seat on the bike.

Hours after the video went viral, regional channels picked it and reported that the incident took place a few days ago but came to light only on Friday. The police on learning about the information, checked the video and contacted the concerned police station to only find that the incident was an old one.

The Hyderabad City Traffic Police said that the incident took place at Niloufer Cafe area on October 8, 2018, under Nampally police station limits and three persons were arrested the next day.

“The video circulating on social media and electronic media is an old one. Please check the authenticity of the video before telecasting the news,” said the traffic police in a note on Thursday.
