One more held for attack on film producer Maha Subair

The accused was identified as Freddy Babu (22), a resident of Kammattipadam in Elamkulam village.

Kochi: A youth who was absconding for over five months in connection with the alleged brutal assault of a film producer in a drunken brawl at a bar in Kathrikadavu has finally been arrested. The accused was identified as Freddy Babu (22), a resident of Kammattipadam in Elamkulam village. According to the cops, the incident took place on March 29 last when a ten-member gang allegedly verbally and physically abused the bar staff in an inebriated condition. The employees threatened to call the police which further irritated the accused.

“Producer Maha Subair had rented a room in the lodge to hold discussions in connection with his new film venture. He was speaking over his mobile phone standing at one corner of the lodge. The gang attacked him with an iron bar assuming that he was alerting the police. He suffered serious head injuries and regained consciousness after several days of treatment,” police said.

A member of the security staff of the bar was also was injured in the attack. The cops had earlier arrested four persons – Antony (24) of Varappuzha, Mohammed Isham (24), a resident of SRM Road, Ernakulam, Carlton Paramel (28) of Mamangalam and Cedric Mendez (22) of Ayyappankavu, in connection with the case. “We acted on a tip-off and arrested Freddy from Tammanam after a chase. He is an accused in a drug case and assault case at Thrippunithura and Palarivattom police stations respectively,” police said.
