Lulu group redeems woman driver house

Group clears liability of Rs 4.50 lakh with Pappanamcode coop bank.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: NRI tycoon Yusuffali M. A. has come to the aid of M. Seetha, a 44-year-old woman auto driver, following the Deccan Chronicle story on her plight. He has helped her clear her liability of Rs 4.50 lakh with the Pappanamcode Cooperative Bank, which had threatened to confiscate her three-cent home for repayment defaults. DC had on April 1 reported of the chores she was juggling – domestic help and thattukada worker after driving her auto rickshaw - to make both ends meet.

Ms Seetha’s 49-year-old husband G. Karunakaran, a mason, is down with prostate cancer and varicose vein which has forced him to be at home. The article came to the notice of Mr Yusuffali and he decided to help her to get back the deed of Shalini Shyama Bhavan, her house at Poozhikunnu near Pappanamcode here.

“Just when the bank authorities were keen on attachment, Mr Yusuffali came to her aid and arranged to send the cheque to the bank authorities,” said a Lulu group official. Now, Ms Seetha is hopeful of resuming her husband’s discontinued treatment at Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences, Kochi. Their younger daughter, a CA student, had committed suicide some four years ago, and the elder daughter, Shalini, was married off. “My joy knew no bounds when Mr Yusuffali’s regional manager Joy Sadanandan called me to say that they would help me to get my deed back," Ms Seetha told DC. "We wish our daughter were alive to see this happiness as she couldn’t cope up with our tension.”
