Girl born to Kerala couple in IS caliphate territory

Refila, a missing woman from Kasargod sends message to her relatives

Kasargod: The relatives of a woman here, who was among those who have reportedly joined the ISIS, have received a communication after two months of their disappearance. Refila, the pregnant woman who went missing along with her husband Dr Ijas Rahman and their two-year-old kid, gave birth to a baby girl on September 6, according to a message received by Refila’s brother on his mobile phone.

“The message through the app, ‘Telegram’ was received on Sunday night. It was sent from the number of Thrikaripur native Abdul Rashid Abdulla who is suspected to be the leader of the team,” said police sources. There were no Bakrid greetings or any casual queries. On receiving the message, Refila’s relatives contacted the police and the Crime Branch officials collected the details from them. The NIA, which is probing the missing case, also quizzed the relatives.

According to sources, the cops are yet to unravel the source of communication through ‘Telegram Messenger’ app. The messages are pre-set on timer which means the message would be automatically deleted once read. Audio messages cannot be downloaded but can be heard only. An NIA special camp office has been opened at Kanjangad to probe the case. Of the 17 missing persons, UAPA has been charged against Abdul Rashid Abdulla and his second wife Yasmin Ahmed.
