Smoke in Secunderabad-Guntur Express Panics Passengers
WARANGAL: Panic gripped the passengers of the Secunderabad-Guntur inter-city express train after they detected thick smoke from its undercarriage near Jangaon railway station on Sunday.
The train staff, who noticed the smoke, immediately alerted the loco-pilot, who stopped the train at the Jangaon railway station, where the passengers deboarded and heaved a sigh of relief as no one was injured. Then, after carrying out a 10-minute minor repair, the train resumed its service.
Jangaon Railway Protection Force (JRPF) official Naresh told Deccan Chronicle that the loco-pilot applied emergency as soon as he was alerted about the smoke emitting from the wheels of a few compartments, which was fixed right away. No one was injured as it was a minor problem which frequently occurs, he added.
Railway chief public relation officer Rajesh said that the smoke was caused by brake binding from the wheels of the compartments of the train. Brake binding is a condition where the brakes on the wheels become stuck causing friction and heat and will lead to smoke emission.
