Now, vigil against epidemics

The health officials are also giving awareness class to the affected people on the precautions to be taken to avoid outbreak of epidemics.

Kochi: Though faced with the risk of water-borne diseases after the onslaught of flooding, not even a single case of infectious disease was reported from any of the relief camps across the district, district Medical Officer N.K. Kuttappan said on Sunday.

“People started returning from the camps. We’ve tackled the first challenge as no infectious disease is reported from any camps. Now people are being advised to return only after ensuring proper sanitation at their houses,” the official said.

The health officials are also giving awareness class to the affected people on the precautions to be taken to avoid outbreak of epidemics.

“The steps include avoidance of flood waters contaminated by se-wage, and remains of animals especially by children, washing hands before eating, drinking or touching face areas. Also they are advised to avoid water from wells until it has been sampled and found to be safe,” another health official said.

The district medical office has opened a control room (0484-2360802) to provide assistance on the precautionary measures taken and on any doubts of affected people related to health and sanitation.
