Salt in fuel tank: Thiruvananthapuram ASI suspended

Showroom officials offer to replace tank after furore on social media.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: An assistant sub inspector attached to Museum Station was suspended pending inquiry for allegedly putting salt inside the fuel tank of a bike on Friday. The ASI identified as Suresh Kumar had allegedly stopped the Duke RC 200 bike for improper number plate. He was placed under suspension by City Police Commissioner P. Prakash based on recommendation from Museum SI Sunilkumar. The key of the bike owned by Vaishakh G. Rajan, 18 of Kanjirampara was taken away by the ASI.

While, the youth and his brother was taken inside station the officer has allegedly put salt inside the tank. The youths who came out of the station with traffic ticket, noticed salt in tank and were informed by an eyewitnesses about the policeman’s action. With this, he approached the city police commissioner.

The Museum SI has informed that there will be no tolerance to such kind of behaviour. The showroom officials who checked the vehicle has offered to replace the tank, amidst furore in social media about the incident. Internet memes mocked Museum police over the incident. Sources said that senior officials had promised that the ASI will be made to compensate the damage if found guilty.
