Madras HC orders damages to parents of 47 missing children
The state filed a report stating that there were 57 cases of child missing pending probe.

Chennai: The Madras high court has directed the SPs to pay compensation under the Victim Compensation Scheme to parents of 47 missing children after ascertaining their identity, within four months.
Passing further interim orders on a Habeas corpus petition filed by M.B. Nirmal, Founder of Exnora International, an NGO, a Division Bench comprising Justices S. Nagamuthu and V. Bharathidasan gave the directive after recording the submission of Advocate-general A.L. Somayaji that in all the 47 child missing cases, the compensation under the Tamil Nadu Victim Compensation Scheme, 2013 has to be paid and the authorities concerned were prepared to pay the compensation.
In his petition, Nirmal sought a direction to the police to produce 8-month-old Vimal and 9-month-old Sharanya, who went missing while sleeping on the platform along with their parents near the Harbour MLA office on North Fort Road and on Walltax road in March and Feb. respectively, before the court and set them at liberty.
The state filed a report stating that there were 57 cases of child missing pending probe. Of the 57, compensation had already been paid in 10 cases.
