Chennai: Central team visits Pallikaranai marshland

The project was initiated on July 1 to promote conservation efforts and rainwater harvesting in water-stressed districts.

Chennai: In a bid to promote water conservation measures, a team from Jal Shakti Abhiyan, a programme launched by the Centre, has been visiting places in Chennai. The project was initiated on July 1 to promote conservation efforts and rainwater harvesting in water-stressed districts.

The team will help redress water scarcity situation in five specific intervention areas like water conservation and rainwater harvesting, renovation of traditional and other water bodies/ tanks, reuse, borewell recharge structure, watershed development and intensive afforestation.

Mrs R.C.Meena, joint secretary, ministry of HRD, visited Pallikaranai marshland and inspected afforestation and water conservation work done by the forest department. District Collector, Chennai, District Forest Officer, Chennai division, Forest Range Officer, Pallikaranai range, Tahsildar, Sholinganallur, and other revenue officials were part of this field visit.
