10th global meet on Tamil studies ends on feel-good note in Chicago
Chennai: The 10th International Conference - Seminar on Tamil Studies, known as the 10th World Tamil Conference, was successfully completed between July 4-7, 2019 in Chicago, held at the Schaumburg Convention Center, Schaumberg, IL. 60173.
This is the first time the Conference was sponsored by the International Association of Tamil Research (IATR) and co-sponsored by the Federation of Tamil Sangams of North America (FeTNA) and the Chicago Tamil Sangam (CTS), the associations of the Tamils in North America without co-sponsorship by any government or political organizations, according to a press release from the organisers.
The central theme of the Conference is: ‘New Historicist, scientific and Comparative Study of the Antiquity of the Tamils, Tamil Language, Culture and Civilization.’ Consistent with the central theme of the Conference, genetists, genographists, archaeologists, geologists, historians, physicians, judges and literary scholars, linguists and others presented their findings on the antiquity of the Tamils, Tamil Language, Culture and Civilization in more than seventy five research papers which will be published on soon on-line and eventually in hard copies for the benefit of Scholars all over the world and to encourage future research in Tamilology.
This conference has set the tone for all future conferences to integrate scientific and technological aspects along with literature. In addition to the World Tamil Conference, the Chicago Tamil Sangam celebrated the Golden Jubilee of its founding and FeTNA its 32nd anniversary. More than 200 scholars from around the world attended the 10th World Tamil Conference.
Further, various political leaders including the Minister of Tamil Development from the Government of Tamil Nadu, Thiru Ma Foi Pandiyarajan, India, Members of Parliament, India and the President of Mauritius, and others came to celebrate this extraordinary event. More than 5000 people from around the world attended the four-day event.
The hundreds of volunteers from the Tamil community in the USA and particularly in Chicago worked for months for the success of the 10th World Tamil Conference and the other events. While Mr. Arasar Arullallar assisted by Ravi Bala and Saravanakumar coordinated the enormous work undertaken by the Academic Committee for the academic part of the Conference, the other various committees worked hard under the dedicated and able leadership of Mr. Veera Venugopal, the Conference Coordinator that ensured the great success of the Great Triple Tamil Celebration in Chicago.
