Politicos continue to protest for Neet exemption
Chennai: Despite the fact that the Tamil Nadu government has decided to go ahead with the medical counselling based on Neet ranks, political leaders from the state have resolved to fight until getting the exemption from the common medical exam here.
The Federation for Protection of Democratic Rights conducted a statewide protest demanding the President’s assent for Tamil Nadu’s bills seeking Neet exemption on Wednesday.
Speaking at the protest, VCK leader Thol Thirumavalavan said, “We need not get dejected by the fact that the Neet was already been conducted. We will fight until they give exemption from Neet to the state.”
“Neet can effectively push all the states towards CBSE syllabus thereby making the entire nation to follow one syllabus. Such a syllabus will not have any reference to the Tamil language or culture or it’s social justice movement,” he added.
TNCC president S. Thirunavukarasar said, “Chennai is being hailed as the medical hub of India because we have many quality doctors here.”
He said, “Due to the weakened leadership in the state, the central government is trying to impose its narrow policies like Neet.”
DMK’s legal wing secretary R.S. Bharathi said, “The state bills seeking exemption from Neet was passed unanimously after nearly 50 years. Yet, the central government chose to ignore the bills.” P.B. Prince Gajendrababu, general secretary, State Platform for Common School System, said “As per the recommendations of the parliamentary committee and the provisions of the constitution, the central government should forward the two bills to the President for the assent. The TN government should not proceed with the medical counselling until they get a reply from the President.” CPI state secretary R. Mutharasan, IUML leader K.M. Kader Mohideen and others also participated in the protest.
