THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Nearly 50 per cent of engineering applicants have not submitted their options for BTech admissions as the last date for those who got allotments from the second round is to end on July 15. As many as 27,653 students of the 55,914 who cleared the engineering entrance examinations have not submitted their options. Only 28,261 students submitted their options for engineering admissions in government quota, though there are 37,277 seats in government, aided and self-financing engineering colleges put together.
There are a total of 58,836 seats in engineering colleges in the state if the number of management quota seats in self-financing engineering college also is considered. Though the self-financing engineering college managements wanted to admit students who did not qualify in the entrance examinations, they had to agree to the government stand that students from the engineering rank list published by the commissioner for entrance examinations only will be admitted.
To qualify in the entrance examination and thereby become eligible to figure in the rank list for engineering, a candidate has to score a minimum of 10 marks each in Paper I and Paper II of the entrance examination.
