CPI to oppose Uniform Civil Code
Thrissur: CPI is against the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC), the lone MP of the party in the Lok Sabha C.N. Jayadevan has said. The party had taken such a stand earlier and accordingly it would oppose the move of the NDA Government to put in place UCC in the country. Mr Jayadevan while speaking to media person in Thrissur on Tuesday also said that incidence of violence in Jammu and Kashmir had increased after the Narendra Modi Government took charge in centre two years ago.
“The communal speeches of BJP leaders might have caused such a spurt of violence in the valley. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh had asked my opinion on the incidents of violence that erupted in J&K after the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani in an encounter by the army on Friday. I have told the Home Minister that I will discuss the matter with my party and convey my stand,” he said.
The MP said that such violence in the name of a terrorist by calling him a liberation leader was not acceptable. But at the same time, the Central Government should change its approach in matters of J&K to bring down violence.
