KAKINADA: Woman Rajulapudi Arudra (44) of Rayudupalem village in Kakinada Rural mandal and her disabled daughter Sai Lakshmi Chandra suffering from spinal cord problem continued their ‘fast-unto-death’ protest at the Government General Hospital in Kakinada on Monday.
The two, with support from some physically challenged association leaders, started the fast-unto-death deeksha on June 7 at Dharna Chowk in Kakinada, demanding that the government do justice to them vis-a-vis their land issue. Two constables were allegedly forcing the woman to sell her land and house at a low price.
Due to their worsening health condition, the police shifted them to Government General Hospital at Kakinada on June 8. But, the mother and daughter did not respond to attempts by doctors to give them medical treatment.
The hospital authorities informed the police about their worsening health condition.
The police said they were making efforts to pacify them. At one stage, the police tried to forcibly give fluids to them. But Arudra warned the police that she would commit suicide if they force-feed the two.
Holding a surgical knife, she threatened to stab herself if the police came near her.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan may visit the GGH during his Varahi Yatra to console Arudra.
Notably, on November 3 last year, Arudra allegedly attempted suicide by cutting her wrist near the camp office of chief minister Jagan Reddy at Tadepalli. She alleged that two constables -- a security guard attaché to R&B minister Dadisetty Raja and a constable in the Intelligence department --had been obstructing her from selling her house in Annavaram village. She said she had no way but to sell her house to provide medical treatment to her daughter, who is confined to a wheelchair.
Those constables, who are brothers, were allegedly forcing her to sell the house for a small sum of ₹10 lakhs instead of her expected price of ₹40 lakhs.
Following Arudra's complaint, departmental action was taken against the constables the same day. Meanwhile, Arudra along with her daughter again started their protest against the constables.
