Four teenagers feared drowned during high tide at Juhu in Mumbai
Four minor boys, aged between 12 and 16 years, were feared drowned of the five children who were sitting on the edge of the jetty at Juhu Koliwada near Juhu beach were washed away in a high tide on Monday evening. One of them has been rescued and a search operation for those missing was on till last night.
The four missing have been identified as, Jay Roshan Tajbariya (15), Manish Yogesh Oganiya (12), Shubham Yogesh Oganiya (15) and Dharmesh Valji Faujiya (16).
The rescue operation team claimed that high tidal waves and darkness in the night hampered their work.
Around 5.28 pm, the civic body officials were alerted and personnel of the Flood and Rescue Team (FRT), Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) were pressed in for rescue operations. At 8.20 pm, the Indian Navy deployed a chopper for the rescue operations.
Officials said that the minors hailed from Vakola and were on a visit to the beach.
“Eight boys had come to visit the Juhu Koliwada. While three boys were clicking selfies, five were sitting on the edge of the jetty. As there were high tides in the sea, the five boys got washed away in one of them.”
However, one of the boys was rescued by the local fishermen and other residents. The rescued boy is said in a stable condition.
Preliminary reports released by the BMC added that the boys were washed away half a kilometre from the shore.
