Kozhikode collector U V Jose convenes meet in wake of attacks on party offices

Parties agree to peace.

KOZHIKODE: Representatives of all the political parties that attended a meeting convened by district collector U.V. Jose on Monday evening, agreed to call local meetings of their respective party workers to prevent any untoward incidents in the wake of the attacks on party offices and houses in the districts. The leaders also condemned the attacks on offices, especially on CPM district secretary P. Mohanan, near the district committee office.

In the meeting attended by city police commissioner J. Jayanath and Rural SP MK Pushkaran, the top cops revealed that in the city, 16 cases were registered and 27 people were accused. Meanwhile, in the rural, 38 cases were registered and 39 people were accused. The rural SP said that nearly 200 people were yet to be booked and they belonged to CPM, BJP and IUML.
The representatives of political parties also demanded that the original culprits should be booked in each case and offered all support.

On Sunday night, country-made bombs were thrown at the house of an RSS worker, Parachalil Prajeesh in Maruthonkara, near Kuttiyadi. Meanwhile, IUML alleged that the police was taking sides with the CPM for the attacks against other party offices. IUML party offices were attacked in Thodannur and Thiruvallur areas last week. BJP state president Kummanam Rajasekharan on Monday visited the BMS office near Kallayi that was attacked. He said that the report would be submitted to the Governor on the same day, as the government was not taking any fruitful action. He also pointed out the attack on BJP state secretary V.K. Sajeevan’s house.

“BJP has no role in the attack against the CPM district committee office. An all-party meeting should have been called then. But that did not take place and most of our offices were attacked, causing a loss of crores of rupees,” Mr Kummanam said. The meeting called at the Collectorate was attended by Mayor Thottathil Raveendran, MK Raghavan MP, MLAs E.K. Vijayan, VKC Mammed Koya, MK Muneer, A. Pradeepkumar, PTA Raheem, K Dasan, Purushan Kadalundi and CK Nanu.
