Kerala response sought on allegation against Tomin Thachankary

The court asked the state government to file an affidavit on the petition of Jose Thomas of Alappuzha.

Kochi: Kerala High Court on Monday directed the state government to respond to the allegation that Tomin J. Thachankary, the additional director general of police, has been appointed at the police headquarters to keep a check on the reinstated state police chief T. P. Senkumar. A Division Bench passed the order while considering a public interest litigation pointing to the mass transfers of top officers. The court asked the state government to file an affidavit on the petition of Jose Thomas of Alappuzha.

Two days before his reinstatement, a massive reshuffle in the higher echelons of the force was carried out transferring over 100 DySPs, the petitioner said. At the top, Mr Thachankary who was serving as ADGP - Coastal Police, was posted at the headquarters in place of ADGP Anil Kant, who has been shifted as ADGP in charge of vigilance. The petitioner said criminal cases were pending against him involving moral turpitude as well as the departmental proceedings. "It could be seen that en masse transfers were mainly aimed at restructuring the police headquarters as Mr Senkumar assumed the office," he alleged.
