Telangana minister's road digging a big pain

Transco laying underground line to improve power supply.

Hyderabad: While the carriageway on Sardar Patel Road at Rasoolpura junction has narrowed down due to Metro Rail work, the TS Transco has dug up Minister’s Road that connects to SP Road.

Transco is laying a 132-KV underground line to provide connection to a new sub-station at Patigadda, which will facilitate reliable power supply to Secretariat, Raj Bhavan, Assembly and the areas on either side of SP Road.

Minister's Road is an important alternative route to Khairatabad and Ameerpet. One of the two lanes has been dug up for more than half-a-kilometre, from Sai Baba Temple to the Sindhi Colony junction. The works will go on for a month. Motorists said that the timing could not have been worse.

“As it is, we are suffering from slow traffic movement on SP Road. Now the Transco work on Minister’s Road will add to the woes of motorists,” said Mr Ritveer K.M., a regular commuter on the stretch.

ACP, Traffic, West, Masoom Basha said the GHMC commissioner had visited the spot and given special permission for road cutting keeping in view the importance of the project.

“There is still one lane left on the road, coming from Sai Baba temple to SP Road, for motorists. Transco has been given permission by the traffic police only to work at night so that machinery and the spill-over do not further reduce the carriageway,” he said.

Transco director (transmission) T. Jagath Reddy said permission was sought as delays would push back the project completion by six months.
