Opposition hails dismissal of GO 1 as people's victory

VIJAYAWADA: All opposition parties have welcomed the AP High Court’s dismissal of GO 1, which restricted political parties from holding meetings in public places.

Welcoming the court’s dismissal, Telugu Desam chief Nara Chandrababu Naidu said the ultimate winner is Ambedkar's constitution. “Dr. B.R. Ambedkar anticipated leaders like Jagan coming to power, who would restrict people from raising their voice against an anti-people government,” Naidu underlined.

Telugu Desam national general secretary Nara Lokesh said it is a victory for democracy as the Raja Reddy constitution sought to be implemented by A1 (Jagan Mohan Reddy) has been scrapped.

CPI leader Ramakrishna, who had filed the public interest litigation (PIL) against the GO, observed that it is not appropriate for any government to put impediments in the holding of rallies and public meetings. He observed that the YSRC government is not tolerating even the smallest movement against it.

TD spokesperson Pilli Manikya Rao felt that given the High Court’s verdict, Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy should unconditionally withdraw all false cases against the opposition.

APCC president Gidugu Rudra Raju, who impleaded into the PIL, said the Congress party has always opposed autocratic rule. “Dismissal of the GO is a victory of the Congress party,” he claimed.
