Three Kerala students in ISRO programme

The students will visit ISRO labs to know how it works to accomplish complex missions.

Thiruvananthapuram: Yuva Vigyani Karyakram (YUVIKA) has seen three middle school students from Kerala also attending a two-week residential programme by Indian Space Research Organisation.

ISRO chairman K. Sivan will inaugurate the young scientist programme, the first of its kind interaction for middle school students started by the Union government’s vision ‘Jai Vigyan, Jai Anusandhan’, at Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota on Monday.

This two week residential summer holidays programme will see three middle school students each from 29 states and seven Union territories taking part in it. The three lucky students selected from Kerala are Eldho Mathew Binoy (Puliyaparamb Hig-her Secondary School, Ko-dunthirapully, Palakkad), Alan C. Raju (GHSS Para-ppa, Kasaragod) and Anu-graha Anish (GHS Pooc-hapra, Idukki).

These students have been chosen as per their perfo-rmance in their eighth sta-ndard examination, membership of science club/-space club, participation in extracurricular activities including sports, NCC/-Scout and Guides and abo-ve all, preference has been given to students from villages.

The programme is being spread over four Isro centres. The children will also get an opportunity to interact with K. Sivan, ‘ISRO YUVIKA- Samvaad with Chairman ISRO on Friday at Sriharikota.

“It is our national duty to inspire and motivate the youth and children by throwing grand challenges at them. Preparing the next generation is essential for sustaining the national growth. There has to be a greater connect between classroom course and science and technology applications. Space science has great potential to transform our country”, said Mr Sivan.

The students will also visit ISRO laboratories to have the firsthand experience on how Team-ISRO works to accomplish complex missions. Students will get opportunities to interact with senior scientists throughout the programme. They will also visit the launchpad and integration facilities at SDSC, SHAR to understand spaceport operations. The students will be accommodated in ISRO guest houses where the ISRO will bear their entire expenses including travel on second class AC train.

Parents are allowed to drop and pick up students from the reporting centre.
