Silent Road' safety drive launched in Kozhikode
KOZHIKODE: Promoting a culture of traffic discipline, a campaign - Silent roads – was launched on Wednesday by City Traffic, in association with the Rotary Club of Calicut and the Kerala Police Association Kozhikode chapter. The campaign was inaugurated by Traffic CI Sreejith T.P. by releasing the sticker to be pasted on vehicles regarding traffic safety and disciplined driving. ‘Use your brains not horns’, was the logo launched on Wednesday, and drivers would be encouraged to use it on the rear of their vehicles, said Rotary Club Calicut city president K. Manikandan. “There are different kinds of noises coming from roads, be it honking or the cries of accident victims. Our aim is to reduce the noise,” said Mr Manikandan.
As part of the campaign, deputy transport commissioner, joint RTOs, MVIs and AMVIs will join the drive in offering classes for drivers. They will also visit colleges and schools, to make youngsters aware of traffic rules and how they could be made more disciplined on the road. “Keralites are more disciplined when they are in a foreign country. Even when signals change, nobody honks and especially on the premises of hospitals, they do not honk. The same people do not show such courtesies in the homeland. The drive is aimed at making roads more disciplined,” said Mr Sreejith. The programme was attended by Rotary district governor Dr Jayaprakash Upadhya, KPA district secretary Sreejish GS, joint secretary Ragheesh P.R, Kerala Police officers association secretary Balakrishnan and Rotary assistant governor A.M. Shereef.
