GHMC audit discovers Rs 1 crore fraud by contractor

Hyderabad: An audit by officials from the GHMC has detected a Rs 1.1 crore scam allegedly committed by a contractor. The GHMC — in a release to the press — has not revealed the contractor’s identity. The general audit in March was carried out to determine expenses incurred during the desilting of nalas. The works were handed over to contractors by the civic body. Officials detected irregularities in the bills submitted by the contractor and now, a case has been booked against the accused for irregularities under the provision of the Indian Contract Act. The contractor will also face action for forgery and criminal breach of trust under various provisions of Indian penal code, GHMC officials said. Disciplinary proceedings have also been initiated against the engineers involved in the project. The investigation has been handed over to the Vigilance wing of the GHMC.

Meanwhile, the Veterinary Officer, Circle 14A, inspected Delicacy Multi Cuisines Restaurant near Manjeera Mall, at Kukatpally and the Chaitanya Food Court near Malaysian Township, KPHB Colony, Kukatpally and imposed a penalty of Rs 2,00,000 each for procuring meat without the GHMC stamp and for preparing non-vegetarian food items in insanitary conditions. A penalty of Rs 10,000 has also been slapped on Bar & Cafe Restaurant for violating the above rules. The Veterinary Officer also inspected the MRCB non-vegetarian shop; the shop owner was fined Rs 1,000 for not possessing a GHMC trade licence. Managements of hotels and restaurants have been warned to procure stamped meat only from GHMC slaughter houses.
