Speaking to media persons after performing the foundation-laying ceremony for Goddess Sri Padmavathi Ammavaru temple in Chennai, he said mass weddings are being revived by TTD to help the poor with the blessings of Lord Venkateswara. The Devasthanams will soon select a Muhurat and conduct weddings under the Sri Kalyanamastu programme, wherein TTD will provide free mangala sutras and pattu vastrams to bride and groom, besides the lunch, Subba Reddy explained.

He said the Sri Padmavati temple in Chennai will be built at a cost of Rs 6.85 crore. TTD will bear Rs 5.85 crore and Devasthanams’ Chennai advisory committee president Sekhar Reddy is contributing Rs. 1 crore. Construction of the temple will be completed within one-and-a-half years, he stated.
The TTD chairman said Gudiko Gomata campaign launched in Karthika Masam has already begun in AP, Karnataka, Delhi, and Telangana states. It will now be launched in Tamil Nadu on Saturday by Kanchi Pontiff Sri Vijayendra Saraswati Swamy Shankaracharya.
