KWA to set up 1240 taps for Attukal Pongala fest

More than 1000 special drinking water taps will be installed in various parts of city for Pongala devotees.

Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Water Authority has made elaborate arrangements for drinking water in connection with Attukal Pongala festival.

More than 1000 special drinking water taps will be installed in various parts of city for Pongala devotees. Drinking water will be supplied through tanker lorries wherever there is demand, an official release here said. The arrangements were in final stages.

Special squads will be deployed 24/7 for maintenance works till the conclusion of the festival. The Pongala area has been demarcated into Attukal, Fort, Chala and Sreeva-rahom zones. All required maintenance works in these areas will be carried out on an emergency basis. As many as 1,240 drinking water taps will be installed in these zones along with 50 showers in Attukal area.

As many as 700 taps will be installed in Attukal, Kalipankulam, Konjiravila, Kuriyathi and Manacaud wards. 110 taps in Tham-panoor, Chala ward, 160 taps in Fort, Enjakkal wards, 270 taps in Sreev-arahom area comprising Ambalathara, Kamalesw-aram, Manikkavilakom, Puthenpally. All taps will be installed before Febr-uary 17.

Vending points will be set up for providing water to kiosks in Thiruvananthpa-uram corporation area at PTP Nagar, Vandithadam, Filter House. A new vending point will be started at Kaladimukham near Attukal.

The officials said the KWA had received administrative sanction for carrying out 22 works including cleaning of drainage pipes and manholes in Pongala zone for '69.67 lakh. All these works will be completed before February 18.
