Hyderabad: Driver loses control, 1 dead, 3 hurt

The victim was a homeless beggar who was crossing the road.

Hyderabad: One person was killed and three others were injured when an RTC bus veered off the road and run over pedestrians near Clock Tower, Secunderabad on Saturday evening.

According to the police, the bus hit an autorickshaw and a car and jumped the divider and went on to the other side of the road, hitting an approaching car and a bike. The bus was from Miyapur depot and the driver was identified as Md Ahmed. The victim was a homeless beggar who was crossing the road.

Those injured were identified as D. Srinivas, an autorickshaw driver, whose left leg was fractured, D. Danamma, 45, and Srinivas, said Gopalpuram sub-inspector Satish, adding that the accident occured after the driver lost control due to a brake failure.

“The first person to be hit by the the bus was the beggar, who died on spot. Then the bus hit others waiting at the bus stop. It came to a stop only after hitting the Metro pillar. All the injured were shifted to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. The vehicles that were hit by the bus were also severely damaged.” he said, adding that the driver was taken into police custody and was reportedly not in an inebriated condition.

The Gopalapuram police booked the driver under Section 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304 A (death by negligence) of IPC.
