Heavy rush at toll gates as people leave for native places

The flow of traffic was dense all through the night and continued into the morning.

Hyderabad: Toll plazas located on the highways leaving the city witnessed a massive rush with thousands of people going to their native places in public transport and private vehicles.

Vehicles were lined up for several kilometres at Panthangi toll plaza on National Highway 65 to Vijayawada and at Gudur toll plaza on Hyderabad-Warangal Highway in Yadadri-Bhongir district. Some motorists had to wait for over an hour to get past.

Sources said the rush began on Friday evening as people, after the close of office hours, began heading to their native places for the nearly week-long Sankranti holidays. The flow of traffic was dense all through the night and continued into the morning.

Commuters argued with toll plaza personnel saying more gates should be opened to clear a larger number of vehicles, It is expected that the rush would increase on Saturday towards the evening when private offices close for the weekend, and Sunday.
