Thrissur: Stale food seized from 3 hotels

To lose licenses if such incidents repeat, warn health officials.

Thrissur: Municipal health officials on Thursday seized stale food from three hotels near Guruvayur Lord Sree Krishna Temple.

“We found substandard cooked food prepared during the previous day from National Paradise on Chavakkad Road near the Western Entrance of the temple, Mayura Residency on Outer Ring Road near Southern Entrance and M M Palace at Western Entrance. Notices have been served, and if they continue to violate norms of Food Safety Act, their licences will be cancelled. The raids will follow in the coming days as well,” health supervisor Laxmanan K. S. told DC. He said they had issued certain guidelines to catering agencies for the wedding season.

A few months ago, jaundice epidemic had broken out after a marriage function held at a hotel near the temple. A person who suffered food poisoning had died and many hospitalised.

The health officials had then traced the food poisoning to the ice blocks used by the catering agency in the welcome drink. Health officials said the guidelines specified not to use block ice used to preserve fish and had made mandatory the use of ice cubes.
