JD(U) wooing disgruntled cong, BJP, JD(S) leaders
Hubballi: Taking its cue from Janata Dal (S) chief H D Kumaraswamy, who has rented a bungalow in the city to revive his party in North Karnataka, Janata Dal (United) too has begun focusing on the region although it has no base here.
The party is organising public meetings in the various districts to prepare for the Assembly elections next year. Several intellectuals, artistes, and litterateurs are expected to take part in the first meeting to be held in the city on January 15 by JD(U) state president Dr M.P. Nadagouda. The party is hoping to attract disgruntled leaders of Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and JD(S) into its fold.
Janata Dal (U) leader Mahima Patel says he has kickstarted the process of strengthening the party from his home constituency of Channagari in Davangere district.
“Although Janata Dal (U) has no base in North Karntaka, we will try to strengthen the party and present it as an alternative political force as it was started by stalwarts such as Ramakrishna Hegde, S.R. Bommai and J.H. Patel. In the past, the party produced several efficient leaders, who left it to join other parties, but don’t seem happy. They could return to Janata Dal (U) before next Assembly polls,” he said.
