Kerala govt okays Rs 70 lakh office for V S Achuthanandan at IMG

The veteran leader is believed to have approached the Central leadership with these issues.

Thiruvananthapuram: The government has issued orders to provide office to Administrative Reforms Commission Chairman V S Achuthanandan at the IMG. The government rejected his demand to set up office at Secretariat annex. The Commission had also officially conveyed to the government its requirement for an office in Secretariat annexe. With VS insisting on secretariat annexe, chief secretary and GAD had approached the chief minister who asked the officials to stick to the previous decision of setting up the office at IMG.

The new office at IMG is estimated to cost Rs 70 lakh. The veteran leader is also upset with the government and party for rejecting his request to appoint A G Sasidharan Nair as private secretary. The veteran leader is believed to have approached the Central leadership with these issues. The veteran was upset since the earlier understanding on allotting office in new annexe building had been changed unilaterally. Sources said the government had allotted adequate space in IMG as it was improper to provide office to a former chief minister in the secretariat building.

Achuthanandan who was appointed chairman of ARC on August 3, had held the first meeting of hte commission at hsi official reasidence Kawdiar House. Recently Speaker P Sreeramakrishnan had asked Achuthanandan to vacate the room allotted to him in MLA hostel. The direction came in the wake of the veteran leader allotted Kawdiar House. Achuthanandan’s MLA hostel room has been allotted to former industries minister E P Jayarajan who resigned from Cabinet over appointment controversy.
