Centre picks seven officers from Kerala for Indian Police Service

Earlier there were allegations that many tainted officers were also proposed for conferring IPS by the state government.

Thiruvananthapuram: Seven police officers from the state, including three who have retired from service, have been conferred IPS by the Central government. Crime Branch superintendent of police (SP) in Kannur B. Ashokan, KSEB vigilance wing SP K. Radhakrishnan, Crime Branch Ernakulam SP Alex K. John and State Crime Records Bureau SP Sacaria George are those is service who were conferred IPS. Sam Christy Daniel, K.B. Venugopal and V.M. Muhammed Rafeek are the retired officers who got IPS.

Earlier there were allegations that many tainted officers were also proposed for conferring IPS by the state government. The seven officers were conferred IPS against the vacancies that arose in 2014. Four vacancies of IPS officers that arose in 2015 were yet to be filled. A decision on it is expected soon. The state government had proposed a list of 33 officers against the 11 vacancies for 2014.

It had triggered allegations that officers who faced allegations pertaining to Happy Rajesh murder case, nexus with godman Santosh Madhavan, attempt to torpedo bar bribery case against former finance minister K. M. Mani and misbehaviour with senior officers were among those in the list. There were also allegations that some officers who were rejected by the screening committee earlier were also included in a fresh list forwarded to the Centre by the state police chief.
