SMS alert to parents from 44 schools
Chennai: Soon, 44 government model schools across the state will send SMS alerts to parents on their kids' homework, daily attendance and academic performance.
Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) state directorate plans to introduce the new e-governance platform 'Shaala Darpan' on a pilot basis in 44 model schools in the educationally backward districts. Under this scheme, bio-metric attendance system will be introduced in these schools. Each student will also be given smart cards.
“Parents will get SMS alert after their wards swiped their cards for attendance” RMSA officials said. “Parents will receive six different types of information through SMS to monitor their children's academic performance. Besides the attendance, they get messages on homework, learning attainment, current lessons in the school and information about school competitions, exams, programmes and financial schemes like scholarships,” they added.
They also plan to create an online portal to maintain an online database of each student. The portal will also host study materials and question papers to help the students. At present, the RMSA state directorate is studying the Shaala Darpan scheme implemented in the Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra states.
“First, we will gather all the necessary details. After that, we will design the software for this scheme. It will take more than a month to launch this platform,” officials said. After studying the outcome of the pilot programme, the e-governance platform may be extended to other government schools under RMSA scheme.
