Pinarayi Vijayan to launch new flyover today

Though the foundation stone for the flyover was laid in June 2014, the deadline was revised twice.

Kochi: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan would launch newly constructed flyover at Palarivattom on Wednesday, further easing vehicular movement on the heavily congested NH 47 section.

The 605-metre-long flyover, constructed by the Roads and Bridges Development Corporation of Kerala (RBDCK) at an estimated cost of Rs 72-crore, would also result in easy flow of vehicles in the Kakkanad route too. However, the free movement of vehicles through the flyover is likely to increase the traffic at Vytilla, the busiest junction across the state.

The Kochi Traffic Police, however, maintained that the traffic modification being implemented at Vytilla Junction would be continued as more vehicle flow is expected through the busy junction from Wednesday.

Though the foundation stone for the flyover was laid in June 2014, the deadline was revised twice. Last month, the Edapally flyover was commissioned. With regard to the flyovers at Vytilla and Kundannoor, the state government has asked the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to undertake the construction recently.
